Spooky Halloween Deviled Eggs - featured image

These spooky deviled eggs topped with olive spiders are a fun and delicious Halloween appetizer. Made with simple ingredients, they’re creamy, tangy, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Paprika for garnish
  • 1 can (6 ounces) large black olives (pitted)
  • 1/2 can (3 ounces) medium black olives (pitted)

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a large pot and cover with cold water by about an inch. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, then turn off heat, cover, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes.
  2. Prepare an ice water bath in a medium bowl. Transfer eggs to the ice bath using a slotted spoon and let cool for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Peel the eggs under cold running water, starting from the wide end. Slice each egg in half lengthwise and pop out the yolks into a medium mixing bowl. Place egg white halves on a serving platter, cut side up.
  4. Mash the yolks with a fork until crumbly. Add mayonnaise, yellow mustard, white vinegar, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  5. Spoon the filling into a piping bag fitted with a star tip (or a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off). Pipe the filling into each egg white half, mounding slightly.
  6. Drain olives and pat dry. For spider bodies, slice large olives in half lengthwise. For legs, slice medium olives crosswise into thin rings, then cut each ring in half to create two curved slivers.
  7. Place one olive half (cut side down) on top of the filling in the center of each egg. Arrange 4 leg slivers on each side of the olive body, pressing gently into the filling.
  8. Sprinkle a light dusting of paprika over the eggs, avoiding the olive spiders. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use eggs at least a week old for easier peeling. For best results, boil eggs using the 12-minute method and shock in ice water. Make extra filling for torn eggs. If transporting, secure spiders with toothpicks. Can be prepared a day ahead: store whites and filling separately, assemble spiders just before serving.
