A spooky, smoking Halloween punch that combines tart cranberry, sweet pineapple, and citrus juices with dramatic dry ice fog. Ready in under 10 minutes, this crowd-pleasing drink is perfect for Halloween parties and looks like something straight out of a cauldron.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cranberry juice (unsweetened or regular)
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice (fresh is best)
  • 2 cups ginger ale
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1–2 pounds dry ice (food-grade)
  • 1–2 cups water (to boost fog, optional)
  • Ice ring or large ice cubes (optional)
  • Gummy worms or plastic spider rings (optional, for garnish)
  • Sliced limes or oranges (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ice ring or ice cubes (optional): If using a Halloween-themed ice mold, fill it with water and freeze it the night before. Add gummy worms to the mold for extra effect.
  2. Mix the juice base: In your punch bowl, combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and lime juice. Stir gently. Taste and add simple syrup if desired.
  3. Chill the mixture: Refrigerate the punch bowl for at least 30 minutes before serving. Can be made a few hours ahead.
  4. Add the ginger ale: Right before serving, remove punch bowl from fridge and pour in ginger ale. Stir gently to keep carbonation.
  5. Add your ice ring or cubes: Carefully lower the ice ring into the punch bowl or add regular ice cubes.
  6. Handle the dry ice safely: Put on thick gloves. Using tongs, carefully add dry ice to the punch bowl. Start with about half a pound and add more as needed.
  7. Add water to boost the fog (optional): If fog seems weak, add a cup of warm water to speed up sublimation.
  8. Garnish and serve: Float gummy worms or plastic spiders on top. Place ladle in bowl and let guests serve themselves. Ensure everyone knows not to touch or eat the dry ice.
  9. Maintain the fog effect: As fog fades after 20-30 minutes, add more dry ice using gloves and tongs.
  10. Safety reminder throughout serving: Keep an eye on the punch bowl and ensure no one tries to eat or drink the dry ice pieces. Place a small sign nearby if needed.

Notes

Don’t skip the chilling step—cold punch gives slow, steady fog. Use dry ice pellets if available for better fog production. Add dry ice in stages for consistent effect. Store extra dry ice in a Styrofoam cooler with lid slightly cracked. Taste test the base before adding dry ice. Have warm water on hand to boost fog if needed. Never handle dry ice with bare hands—use thick gloves or tongs. Use only food-grade dry ice in a well-ventilated area.
