A tart, spicy, and bubbly holiday mocktail made with pure cranberry juice, fresh ginger, and sparkling water. Ready in 5 minutes, it’s a refreshing, alcohol-free drink that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) 100% pure cranberry juice (not cocktail)
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger root, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1–2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) ice-cold sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes (preferably large)
  • Fresh cranberries and rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the ginger: Peel a 2-inch piece of fresh ginger with a spoon, then slice it into thin rounds, about the thickness of a nickel.
  2. Muddle the ginger: Drop the ginger slices into the bottom of a tall glass. Add the maple syrup. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist the ginger slices against the bottom of the glass for about 15 seconds until you smell the ginger aroma.
  3. Add the cranberry juice: Pour in 1/2 cup (120 ml) of pure cranberry juice. Stir to dissolve the maple syrup and coat the ginger. Let it sit for 30 seconds to 1 minute to infuse.
  4. Fill with ice: Add a handful of ice cubes to the glass, filling it about three-quarters full.
  5. Top with sparkling water: Slowly pour in 1/2 cup (120 ml) of ice-cold sparkling water or club soda down the side of the glass to preserve fizz.
  6. Stir gently: Give the drink one slow stir with a long spoon to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or ginger flavor if desired.
  7. Garnish and serve: Thread fresh cranberries onto a rosemary sprig or drop them directly into the glass. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh ginger for the best flavor; old or shriveled ginger will be weak. Muddle gently to release oils without shredding. Let the ginger steep in cranberry juice for at least 30 seconds. Keep all ingredients cold to maintain fizz. For a party, mix the cranberry-ginger base (without sparkling water) up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate; add sparkling water just before serving. For a spicier version, replace sparkling water with ginger beer. For a low-sugar option, skip maple syrup and use a few drops of stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
