A creamy, chunky guacamole dressed up as a monster with olive eyes and carrot horns, perfect for Halloween parties. Ready in 15 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 small red onion, finely diced (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 medium Roma tomato, seeds removed and diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, seeds removed and minced
  • Juice of 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 can (6 oz) pitted black olives, drained
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (optional)
  • 12 carrot sticks, cut into small triangles
  • Tortilla chips for serving
  • Sliced bell peppers and cucumber rounds for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your produce: Rinse cilantro, tomato, lime, and jalapeño. Finely dice red onion. Remove seeds from tomato and dice into small cubes. Mince jalapeño after removing seeds. Chop cilantro, stems included, to about 1/4 cup.
  2. Cut and mash avocados: Slice avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a mixing bowl. Add lime juice and salt immediately. Mash with a fork until about 70% smooth with some chunky pieces remaining.
  3. Add mix-ins: Fold in diced onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapeño, and ground cumin. Stir gently. Taste and adjust salt or lime as needed.
  4. Assemble monster face: Transfer guacamole to a serving platter or shallow bowl. Spread into an even layer with a slight dome in the center. Drain olives and pat dry. Slice olives crosswise into 1/4-inch rounds. Arrange two olive slices on the guacamole for eyes, slightly asymmetrical for a goofy look.
  5. Add finishing touches: Cut carrot into small triangles or fangs. Place above eyes for horns or below for fangs. If using sour cream or yogurt, spoon into a small plastic bag, snip a tiny corner, and pipe squiggly lines or dots around the face. Arrange tortilla chips and veggie sticks around the monster. Serve immediately.

Notes

Guacamole browns quickly when exposed to air. If making ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface before adding decorations. Store in refrigerator for up to 2 hours. Add olive eyes and carrot decorations right before serving. For best flavor, let guacamole sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.
