Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 1 bag (10-12 ounces) baby carrots
  • 4–5 celery stalks, cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds or half-moons
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 small can pitted black olives
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons ranch dip (thinned with buttermilk for web)
  • Toothpick or skewer (for web pattern)

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip: In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, and 1/4 cup buttermilk until smooth.
  2. Add seasonings: Stir in 2 tablespoons fresh dill, 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Adjust seasoning to taste. Cover and refrigerate while prepping veggies.
  3. Prep vegetables: Wash and thoroughly dry all veggies. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets. Slice celery into 3-inch sticks. Slice cucumber into rounds or half-moons. Slice red bell pepper into thin strips. Leave cherry tomatoes whole or halved.
  4. Assemble the tray: Place a large round platter on the counter. Put a small bowl or ramekin in the center. Arrange vegetables around the bowl in concentric circles, starting with broccoli and cauliflower, then carrots, celery, cucumber, and bell pepper strips.
  5. Create the spider web: Thin about 2 tablespoons of ranch dip with a splash of buttermilk until drizzling consistency. Pour into a squeeze bottle or zip-top bag. Starting from the center bowl, drizzle ranch in a continuous spiral outward toward the edge of the platter.
  6. Drag the web pattern: Using a toothpick or skewer, start from the center and gently drag through the ranch spiral toward the outer edge. Repeat every inch around the platter to create a web pattern.
  7. Make the spiders: For each spider, use one whole olive for the body and one olive sliced into thin rings for the legs. Arrange 3-4 spiders on the web.
  8. Fill the center bowl: Spoon the remaining (un-thinned) ranch dip into the small bowl in the center. Garnish with fresh dill or a tiny olive spider on the rim.
  9. Serve immediately or refrigerate: Best served cold. If making ahead, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 4 hours.

Notes

Dry veggies thoroughly to prevent soggy dip. Thin the web ranch to a honey-like consistency for best results. Make dip a day ahead for deeper flavor. Store leftovers separately: veggies up to 2 days, dip up to 5 days.
