These fudgy brownies feature a striking peanut butter spider web design that looks impressive but is surprisingly easy to create. A perfect Halloween treat that combines rich chocolate and creamy peanut butter in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter (processed kind like Jif or Skippy)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two opposite sides.
  2. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 30-second intervals until fully liquid. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  3. Add granulated sugar and vanilla extract to the melted butter. Whisk until combined.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, whisking vigorously for about 30 seconds after each addition until smooth and glossy.
  5. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Fold together with a spatula until just combined (about 15 strokes). Do not overmix.
  6. If using, gently fold in peanut butter chips.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. In a small bowl, combine creamy peanut butter and powdered sugar. Stir until smooth and pipeable (add 1 teaspoon milk if too thick, more powdered sugar if too thin).
  9. Transfer peanut butter mixture to a small piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe a spiral on top of the brownie batter, starting from the center and working outward, leaving about 1 inch between rings.
  10. Using a toothpick or skewer, start from the center and drag outward through the peanut butter rings toward the edge of the pan. Repeat 6-8 times around the circle to create a web pattern.
  11. Bake on middle rack for 22-25 minutes. At 22 minutes, insert a toothpick into the center — it should come out with a few moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  12. Cool in the pan for at least 1 hour, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting. For clean cuts, use a sharp knife and wipe clean between each slice.

Notes

Use processed peanut butter (Jif or Skippy) not natural peanut butter for best results. The powdered sugar thickens the peanut butter so the web holds its shape. Don’t overbake — brownies continue cooking from residual heat. Cool completely before cutting to prevent smearing the web pattern. Brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, refrigerated for up to a week, or frozen for up to 3 months.
