These creamy overnight oats are sweet without being sugary and have a texture that kids love. With just 5 minutes of prep the night before, you’ll have a healthy, filling breakfast ready when you wake up.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole milk or any milk of choice)
  • ½ cup (120g) plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or 2%)
  • 2 tablespoons (20g) chia seeds
  • 1–2 tablespoons (15-30ml) honey or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: fresh fruit (berries, banana slices, diced apple), nuts or seeds (chopped almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds), extra yogurt or drizzle of honey

Instructions

  1. In a jar or container with a lid, combine 1 cup rolled oats, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir to distribute evenly.
  2. Add 1 cup milk, ½ cup Greek yogurt, 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
  3. Stir everything together until well combined, scraping the bottom and corners of the jar to ensure chia seeds are evenly distributed.
  4. Seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but overnight (8-12 hours) is best.
  5. In the morning, stir the oats. If too thick, add a splash of milk; if too thin, let sit longer or add more chia seeds.
  6. Add desired toppings and serve cold, or microwave for 30-45 seconds if preferred warm.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for creamier texture. Stir before bed to avoid dry pockets. Make a double batch for meal prep. Let kids help with measuring and toppings to increase likelihood they’ll eat it. Start with 1 tablespoon sweetener and adjust to taste. For extra fiber, swap ¼ cup oats for oat bran or add 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed.
