These creepy yet fun witch finger pretzel rods are a quick and easy Halloween treat made with pretzel rods, green candy melts, and almond fingernails. Perfect for last-minute parties, they’re a crowd-pleaser that kids and adults love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag pretzel rods
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) green candy melts
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 drop red gel food coloring (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • Purple or orange candy melts (optional)
  • Edible glitter or sanding sugar (optional)
  • Black decorating gel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. Set almonds nearby.
  2. Place 1 cup green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely smooth (about 90 seconds total). Stir in 1 teaspoon vegetable oil if mixture is thick.
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the melted candy, leaving 1-2 inches undipped at the top. Gently twist and tap against the bowl to remove excess coating.
  4. Place the dipped pretzel on the prepared baking sheet. Work quickly as the coating sets fast.
  5. While the coating is still wet, press a slivered almond onto the tip of the pretzel (pointed end outward) to create a fingernail. Use a toothpick to adjust if needed.
  6. Use a toothpick or knife tip to gently drag 2-3 lines across the coated part to create knuckle wrinkles.
  7. Optional: Dip a toothpick into red gel food coloring and dab at the base of the almond nail for a ‘blood’ effect.
  8. Refrigerate the baking sheet for 10-15 minutes, or until the candy coating is completely hard. (Freezer works in about 5 minutes.)
  9. Optional: Once set, use black decorating gel to add veins or extra wrinkles. Add purple candy melts for warts if desired.
  10. Serve or store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

Candy melts are sensitive to high heat; melt slowly in 20-30 second intervals. If coating thickens, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil. For nut allergies, substitute almond with a small piece of dried apricot or mini chocolate chip. These taste even better the next day. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
