A quick and easy one-pan salmon dish with a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze, paired with tender-crisp asparagus. Perfect for a busy spring weeknight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus, woody ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (optional, for thicker glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). If you want a thicker glaze, stir in the cornstarch slurry now. Set aside.
  3. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with a pinch of salt and pepper. Trim the woody ends off the asparagus and toss the spears with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place your oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Let it get hot until it shimmers—about 2 minutes.
  5. Carefully place the salmon fillets in the hot skillet, skin-side down (if they have skin). Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes, until the skin is crispy and golden.
  6. Flip the salmon fillets. Pour about half of the honey garlic glaze over the fillets. Let them cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Tuck the seasoned asparagus spears around the salmon in the skillet in a single layer.
  8. Drizzle the remaining glaze over the salmon and asparagus. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
  9. Bake for 6-8 minutes, depending on thickness. Salmon should be opaque and flake easily; asparagus should be tender-crisp.
  10. Let the salmon rest in the skillet for 2 minutes. Spoon pan sauce over the top before serving.

Notes

For best results, pat salmon dry before searing. Do not overcrowd the pan. Watch the glaze to prevent burning. For medium-rare salmon, aim for 125°F internal temperature; for medium, 135°F.
