These Easy Oreo Dirt Cups with Gummy Worms are a quick, no-bake dessert that comes together in just 10 minutes. Layers of creamy chocolate pudding, crunchy Oreo crumbs, and chewy gummy worms create a fun, nostalgic treat that kids and adults alike will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 Oreo cookies (about half a standard 14.3-ounce package)
  • 1 (3.9-ounce) box instant chocolate pudding mix (recommended: Jell-O brand)
  • 1 ¾ cups (420 ml) cold milk (whole milk preferred, 2% works)
  • 1 ½ cups frozen whipped topping (Cool Whip, thawed; or ¾ cup heavy cream whipped with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar)
  • 12 to 15 gummy worms (sour variety recommended, like Trolli or Black Forest)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place 20 Oreos in a ziploc bag. Seal it, squeeze out the air, and roll over it with a rolling pin until you have a mix of fine crumbs and small chunks (some pea-sized pieces). Set aside about 2 tablespoons of crumbs for topping later.
  2. Make the pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and 1 ¾ cups cold milk. Whisk for about 2 minutes until it thickens. Use ¼ cup less milk than the box says for a firmer set. Let it sit for 3 minutes to fully thicken.
  3. Fold in the whipped topping: Gently fold 1 ½ cups of thawed whipped topping into the pudding using a rubber spatula, folding from the bottom up. Do not stir. The mixture should look light and mousse-like. Add a tiny pinch of salt if too sweet.
  4. Layer the cups: Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of crushed Oreos into the bottom of each cup. Press down lightly with the back of a spoon. Add 2 tablespoons of the pudding mixture on top. Sprinkle another tablespoon of crumbs over the pudding. Add one more layer of pudding, filling the cup almost to the top.
  5. Add the worms: Gently push 2 or 3 gummy worms into the pudding so they stick out of the top like they are crawling out of the dirt. Cut some worms in half and push them into the sides of the cup for a tunneling effect.
  6. Top with remaining crumbs: Sprinkle the reserved 2 tablespoons of Oreo crumbs over the top to completely cover the pudding. Tap the cup lightly to settle the crumbs.
  7. Chill (optional but recommended): Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the cookies soften and flavors meld. Can be eaten immediately for a crunchier texture.

Notes

Use cold milk straight from the fridge for best pudding texture. Let pudding rest 3 minutes before layering to prevent crumbs from floating. Press the first crumb layer firmly to create a barrier. Add worms right before serving if you want them extra chewy. Double the recipe for a crowd. Store covered in the fridge for up to 4 days; best on day two when crumbs soften into a fudgy layer. Can be frozen for up to a month (thaw overnight in fridge).
