These fun and festive mummy-wrapped cocktail sausages are the perfect Halloween appetizer. Flaky crescent roll dough wraps smoky little smokies, with tiny mustard eyes that make them irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450g (1 lb) cocktail sausages or little smokies
  • 1 can (235g / 8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • Yellow mustard (for the eyes)
  • 1 large egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Optional dipping sauce: ketchup, barbecue sauce, or honey mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. Press the perforated seams together to create one solid rectangle.
  3. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1 cm (½ inch) wide. You should get roughly 12 to 16 strips.
  4. Take one cocktail sausage and place it at one end of a dough strip. Wrap the strip around the sausage, overlapping slightly, leaving a small gap near the top for the ‘face.’ Tuck the end of the dough strip underneath the sausage to secure it.
  5. Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 cm (1 inch) apart.
  6. In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Lightly brush the top of each mummy with the egg wash.
  7. Before baking, pipe two small dots of yellow mustard onto the exposed sausage ‘face’ of each mummy.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed, and the sausages are heated through.
  9. Let the mummies rest on the baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauces.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat crescent rolls. Don’t overwork the dough. Leave a small gap for the face. For brighter mustard eyes, add them after baking. To keep warm, place in a 90°C (200°F) oven for up to 30 minutes.
