Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chocolate cookies (like Oreos or chocolate wafers), crushed into fine crumbs
  • 2–3 ounces dark chocolate bars or candy melts
  • A handful of pretzel sticks
  • A small handful of almond slivers or pumpkin seeds
  • 4–6 ounces hard salami or pepperoni slices
  • 3–4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes or small shapes
  • 2–3 ounces Gouda or smoked cheese, sliced
  • A small bunch of red or green grapes
  • 2–3 dried apricots or figs, sliced
  • A small handful of blackberries or dark cherries
  • 1–2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • A few edible eyeballs (optional)
  • A few miniature marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Make the ‘Dirt’ (5 minutes): Place the chocolate cookies in a zip-top bag. Seal it, and crush them with a rolling pin until you have fine, dark crumbs. Set the crumbs aside in a bowl.
  2. Create the Gravestones (10 minutes + 15 minutes to set): Break the dark chocolate into small pieces and melt it in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth. Line a small plate or baking sheet with parchment paper. Pour the melted chocolate into a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip a tiny corner off. Pipe small, uneven rectangles onto the parchment—these are your gravestones. While the chocolate is still wet, gently press a small almond sliver or a piece o…
  3. Prepare the ‘Bones’ and Fence (2 minutes): Take a few pretzel sticks and break them in half. Set them aside. Keep a few whole to act as a fence or a cross.
  4. Assemble the Charcuterie Elements (5 minutes): Arrange the salami slices, cheese cubes, and grapes on the board. Leave a large empty space in the center for the graveyard.
  5. Build the Graveyard (3 minutes): In the empty center of the board, spoon the chocolate cookie crumbs to create a thick, even layer of ‘dirt.’ Gently press the chocolate gravestones into the dirt at different angles. Stick the broken pretzel sticks into the dirt to look like bones. Place a few whole pretzel sticks to form a little fence.
  6. Add the Spooky Details (3 minutes): Scatter the blackberries and almonds around the graveyard. Place the rosemary sprigs to look like dead trees. If you have edible eyeballs, nestle them in the dirt. Add the mini marshmallow ghosts by cutting them in half and placing them around the edges.
  7. Final Touches (2 minutes): Step back and look at your board. Fill any empty spots with extra grapes or crackers. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t over-crush the cookies; a mix of fine crumbs and small chunks looks more like real dirt. Chocolate gravestones are delicate; pipe them about ¼-inch thick. Let the chocolate set fully before assembling to avoid melting. Room temperature cheese has better flavor. Work in layers when building the graveyard to anchor the gravestones. This board is best served immediately.
