These fudgy spiderweb peanut butter brownies are a festive and easy Halloween dessert. A simple peanut butter and powdered sugar mixture creates a perfect web design on top of a rich chocolate brownie base, making them a crowd-pleaser for any fall gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (18.4 oz) fudge brownie mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (e.g., Skippy or Jif)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • For the spiderweb: 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • For the spiderweb: 1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and water. Stir with a whisk or spatula until just combined (about 30 to 40 strokes). Do not overmix.
  3. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of peanut butter, 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. If too stiff, microwave for 10 seconds.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the brownie batter (6 to 8 dollops, spaced evenly).
  6. Use a butter knife or offset spatula to gently swirl the peanut butter into the brownie batter with figure-eight motions. Do not over-swirl.
  7. For the spiderweb: In a separate small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of peanut butter with 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar. Transfer to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe a spiral on top of the brownie batter, starting from the center and working outward.
  8. Take a toothpick or skewer and drag it from the center of the spiral outward to the edge at 1-inch intervals around the entire spiral. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  9. Sprinkle the optional chocolate chips over the top.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The edges should be set, and the center should look slightly underdone. A toothpick inserted 2 inches from the edge should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a cooling rack (about 1 to 2 hours). For clean slices, refrigerate the pan for 30 minutes before cutting.

Notes

For best results, keep the peanut butter mixture at room temperature to prevent it from sinking. Do not over-swirl the batter. Chill brownies before cutting for clean slices. Brownies taste even better the next day.
