These Crispy Mummy Hot Dogs are flaky, golden puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dogs, perfect for kid parties and quick snacks. The fun mummy design makes snack time entertaining and tasty.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (usually 2 sheets), thawed
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (beef, turkey, or vegetarian options)
  • 4 cheese slices, cut in half (optional)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for decorating eyes)
  • Flour (for dusting surface)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions, usually about 30-40 minutes at room temperature. Lightly dust your work surface with flour.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets gently with a rolling pin to smooth creases and slightly thin the dough to approximately 12 x 10 inches.
  4. Cut the puff pastry into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  5. Slice the cheese (if using) in half lengthwise to create thin strips that fit inside the pastry along the hot dog.
  6. Wrap each hot dog with a slice of cheese, then wrap the puff pastry strips around it in a crisscross pattern, leaving small gaps for the mummy effect.
  7. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  8. Brush the wrapped hot dogs gently with beaten egg for a golden crust.
  9. Use a small dab of mustard or ketchup to create eyes on each mummy.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep puff pastry chilled until ready to use to avoid stickiness. Leave small gaps between pastry strips to prevent sogginess. Use egg wash for a golden finish but do not oversaturate. Watch oven closely to avoid burning. Let hot dogs cool slightly before serving. Can be made ahead and baked just before serving. To reheat, use toaster or conventional oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes; avoid microwaving to keep pastry crispy.
