This creamy peanut butter smoothie bowl is a grown-up version of a childhood favorite, combining frozen bananas, peanut butter, and milk into a thick, scoopable breakfast that’s quick, satisfying, and perfect for fall mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas, sliced and frozen
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup milk of choice (e.g., oat milk, almond milk, dairy milk)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ½ banana, sliced (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter, warmed (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons granola (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or hemp hearts (for topping)
  • Optional: cinnamon, dark chocolate chips, melted coconut butter, fresh berries, pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

  1. Prep your bananas: Peel and slice two ripe bananas. Lay the slices in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  2. Gather your ingredients: Measure out peanut butter, milk, vanilla, salt, and sweetener if using.
  3. Blend the base: Add frozen banana slices, peanut butter, milk, vanilla, salt, and maple syrup (if using) to a blender. Start on low speed and gradually increase to high. Use a tamper to push the mixture down toward the blades. Blend for 30-45 seconds until thick and creamy.
  4. Check the texture: Stop the blender and scrape down the sides. If too thick, add another tablespoon of milk. If too thin, add a few ice cubes and blend again. The ideal texture is thick enough to hold a spoon upright.
  5. Taste and adjust: Dip a clean spoon in and taste. Adjust sweetness, salt, or peanut butter as needed, then blend for another 5 seconds.
  6. Pour into a bowl: Use a spatula to scrape the mixture into a wide bowl.
  7. Add toppings: Arrange sliced banana, a drizzle of warmed peanut butter, granola, and chia seeds on top. Finish with a dusting of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
  8. Serve immediately: Enjoy right away while the base is cold and creamy and the toppings are crunchy.

Notes

For best texture, use fully frozen bananas. If your blender is not high-speed, let frozen bananas sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften slightly. Warm natural peanut butter for 10 seconds in the microwave to help it blend smoothly. Chill your serving bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving to keep the bowl cold longer.
