A creamy, filling, and high-protein chocolate overnight oats recipe that is quick to prepare and perfect for a nutritious start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (45 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp (10 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop (about 30 g) protein powder (whey or plant-based)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk (any kind, unsweetened almond milk recommended)
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla, or coconut yogurt for dairy-free)
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) maple syrup (or honey)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Measure the oats and cocoa powder into your mixing bowl or jar. Use 1/2 cup (45 g) rolled oats and 2 tablespoons (10 g) cocoa powder. Stir to combine dry ingredients evenly.
  2. Add protein powder (1 scoop, about 30 g) and mix with dry ingredients to prevent clumps.
  3. Pour in 1 cup (240 ml) milk of your choice and stir gently until oats and powders are well moistened.
  4. Mix in 1/4 cup (60 g) Greek yogurt for creaminess and tang. Use coconut yogurt if dairy-free.
  5. Stir in 1 tablespoon (15 ml) maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add a pinch of salt to enhance flavors.
  6. Add 1 tablespoon chia seeds if desired for extra thickness and fiber.
  7. Seal the container tightly and refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours to soften oats and blend flavors.
  8. In the morning, stir the oats gently. If too thick, add a splash of milk to loosen.
  9. Add toppings like sliced banana, chopped nuts, or dark chocolate chips if desired.

Notes

Use old-fashioned rolled oats for best texture; steel-cut oats won’t soften enough and instant oats get mushy. Mix protein powder with dry ingredients first to avoid clumps. Adjust maple syrup based on protein powder sweetness. Stir before eating to recombine separated ingredients. Refrigerate at least 6 hours for creamy texture. Can warm gently in microwave with splash of milk if preferred warm.
