These cozy cinnamon apple dumplings with Mountain Dew glaze are a quick and easy dessert that tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen. Tender apples wrapped in flaky crescent dough are baked in a sticky, caramelized glaze with a subtle citrus lift.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples (or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 can (12 oz) Mountain Dew (regular, not diet)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thicker glaze)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)
  • Caramel sauce (for serving, optional)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and core the apples, then cut each into 8 wedges (about 1/2 inch thick at the widest part).
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles along the perforated lines.
  3. Wrap each apple wedge in a crescent triangle: place the wedge at the wide end, roll toward the point, and tuck the point under the bottom to seal. Place seam-side down in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk until the sugar is mostly dissolved and the mixture is smooth and bubbly (about 2 minutes). Pour evenly over the wrapped apple wedges.
  5. Slowly pour the Mountain Dew over everything, distributing it around the dish so each dumpling gets some.
  6. Sprinkle extra cinnamon over the top if desired.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the glaze is bubbling and thickened. Halfway through, spoon some glaze over the dumplings to keep them moist.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, or chopped nuts.

Notes

Don’t skip the 5-minute rest after baking—it allows the glaze to set. Use a glass or ceramic dish to avoid a metallic taste from the soda’s acidity. For best results, use regular (not diet) Mountain Dew, as the sugar is essential for caramelization. If assembling ahead, wrap the dumplings in dough and refrigerate; add the butter mixture and soda just before baking.
