A warm and festive peppermint mocha coffee bar featuring homemade dark chocolate ganache, hot coffee, and customizable toppings. Perfect for Christmas morning or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (175g) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (60-70% cacao)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 4 cups (950ml) hot brewed coffee (medium or dark roast)
  • 2 cups (475ml) milk of choice (whole, oat, or almond)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks
  • 1/4 cup (60g) crushed candy canes or peppermint candies
  • 1–2 tablespoons peppermint extract or peppermint syrup (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)
  • Mini marshmallows (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the chocolate ganache: Place dark chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Pour hot cream over chocolate, let sit 2 minutes, then whisk until smooth and glossy. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Brew the coffee: Brew 4 cups of hot coffee using your preferred method.
  3. Warm the milk: In a small pot, gently warm 2 cups of milk over medium-low heat until hot but not boiling. Froth if desired.
  4. Crush the candy canes: Place candy canes in a sturdy zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin or heavy skillet into small pieces.
  5. Whip the cream: Whisk 1/2 cup heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add a pinch of sugar if desired.
  6. Assemble the bar: Arrange ganache, warm milk, coffee, whipped cream, crushed candy canes, and optional toppings on a serving tray.
  7. Build your mocha: For each serving, spoon 2 tablespoons ganache into a mug. Pour in 3/4 cup hot coffee and stir until dissolved. Add 1/4 to 1/3 cup warm milk. Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t overheat the cream for the ganache—heat just until simmering. Use room-temperature ingredients where possible. Taste as you go to adjust sweetness. Crush candy canes the morning of or night before and store in an airtight container. Keep extra hot water on hand to loosen ganache if it thickens.
