These Cozy Cheesy Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun, simple Halloween treat featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent dough with a gooey cheese surprise. Perfect for parties or a cozy night in, they’re ready in under 25 minutes and guaranteed to bring smiles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (preferably Pillsbury)
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs (e.g., Hebrew National or Applegate)
  • 4 slices American cheese or cheddar cheese (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup, for decorating faces
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated triangles, press seams together to form a single sheet. Slice dough lengthwise into 8 long strips, each about 1/2 inch wide.
  3. Cut each cheese slice into 4 thin strips (16 strips total).
  4. Place one strip of cheese lengthwise along the top of a hot dog. Starting at one end, wrap a dough strip around the hot dog at a slight angle, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Press the end gently to seal. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  5. Tuck one more cheese strip into the gap at the top of each mummy to create the face area.
  6. Brush the exposed dough with beaten egg wash, avoiding the cheese.
  7. Place mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between them. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is puffed and golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
  8. Let cool for 2-3 minutes, then use a toothpick or small knife to dot mustard or ketchup onto the cheese face to create eyes.
  9. Serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

For best results, don’t overwork the dough. Keep cheese strips thin to avoid bursting. Watch oven closely as baking times vary. Serve immediately for optimal gooeyness. Can be assembled ahead and refrigerated for up to 8 hours or frozen unbaked for up to 2 months.
