A vibrant green Halloween cocktail made with vodka, apple juice, and spices. This budget-friendly drink is perfect for parties and can be made ahead of time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) vodka
  • 4 cups apple juice
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3–4 lemons)
  • 1 cup simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons green food coloring
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 2–3 green apple slices (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup (if making from scratch): Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar completely dissolves. This takes about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. You can speed this up by placing the saucepan in an ice bath.
  2. Juice the lemons: Roll each lemon on the counter with your palm before cutting to release more juice. Cut them in half and juice them until you have 1/2 cup. Strain out any seeds.
  3. Combine the liquids: In your large pitcher, pour in the entire bottle of vodka, 4 cups of apple juice, 1 cup of apple cider, the fresh lemon juice, and the cooled simple syrup. Stir gently with your wooden spoon until everything is well combined.
  4. Add the color: Start with 1 tablespoon of green food coloring and stir it in. Check the color—you want a bright, almost neon green. Add the second tablespoon if needed.
  5. Infuse with spices: Drop in the cinnamon sticks (broken in half) and the whole cloves. Give everything one more gentle stir.
  6. Chill and rest: Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, but overnight is even better.
  7. Prepare the garnish: Just before serving, slice your green apples into thin rounds or wedges. Toss them in a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
  8. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the cocktail over the ice, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Garnish each glass with a green apple slice.

Notes

The cocktail keeps in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with ginger ale or sparkling water. Strain spices before serving to large crowds. Use gel food coloring for best results.
