Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each), skin on or off
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice or brown rice
  • 1 large avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli or edamame
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Optional: sriracha mayo or spicy mayo

Instructions

  1. Start your rice: Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to package directions (about 15-20 minutes).
  2. Pat the salmon dry with paper towels. Season both sides with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Let sit while you make the glaze.
  3. Mix the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  4. Sear the salmon: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and let it get hot. Place salmon fillets in the pan, skin-side down (if using skin-on). Cook for 4 minutes without moving them.
  5. Flip and glaze: Carefully flip the salmon. Pour the glaze mixture into the pan around the salmon. Cook for 2-3 minutes, spooning the bubbling glaze over the salmon as it thickens. Salmon should be cooked through (145°F internally).
  6. Rest the salmon: Transfer glazed salmon to a clean plate and let rest for 2 minutes.
  7. Assemble bowls: Divide cooked rice between four bowls. Place a glazed salmon fillet on top. Arrange sliced avocado, steamed broccoli, and shredded carrots around the salmon. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Drizzle with sriracha mayo if desired.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best sear. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Watch heat to prevent honey from burning. Let glaze thicken naturally without cornstarch. Season as you go. Prep toppings and rice ahead for hosting.
