These no-bake Halloween dirt cups feature layers of creamy chocolate pudding, crunchy Oreo ‘soil,’ and gummy worms crawling out of the top. They come together in under 15 minutes and are perfect for parties or a fun treat with kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3.9 oz) box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt (optional)
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package regular Oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (optional, for darker ‘dirt’)
  • 1 (5 oz) bag gummy worms
  • Optional garnishes: small candy pumpkins, candy eyeballs, chocolate sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the instant chocolate pudding mix, 2 cups cold whole milk, and 1/8 teaspoon salt (if using). Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. Let the pudding sit for 5 minutes to set up completely.
  2. While the pudding sets, prepare the Oreo ‘dirt.’ Place the entire package of Oreos (filling and all) into a gallon-size Ziploc bag. Seal the bag tightly, squeezing out as much air as possible. Using a rolling pin, crush the cookies until they resemble coarse sand with a few small chunks. Alternatively, pulse in a food processor until desired texture is reached.
  3. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the crushed Oreos into the bottom of each clear cup. Gently press it down with the back of a spoon to make an even base layer.
  4. Spoon or pipe the chocolate pudding on top of the Oreo layer, filling the cup about halfway. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  5. Add another layer of crushed Oreos on top of the pudding—about 2 more tablespoons. This creates the ‘topsoil.’
  6. Take 2-3 gummy worms and gently press them into the top layer of Oreo dirt, leaving part of the worm sticking out. Arrange them so they look like they’re crawling out of the soil.
  7. For best texture, refrigerate the dirt cups for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the pudding to firm up and the Oreo crumbs to soften slightly.
  8. Just before serving, add any optional garnishes—a candy pumpkin on top, a pair of candy eyeballs, or a sprinkle of chocolate sprinkles. Serve with spoons.

Notes

For best results, use whole milk for extra creamy pudding. Crush Oreos to a mix of fine dust and small chunks for realistic ‘dirt’ texture. A tiny pinch of salt balances the sweetness and enhances chocolate flavor. Assemble within 2 hours of serving to keep Oreo dirt crunchy. For gluten-free, use gluten-free sandwich cookies and gluten-free pudding mix. For vegan, use plant-based milk, vegan pudding mix, and vegan gummy worms.
