best easy mummy hot dogs - featured image

These adorable mummy hot dogs are wrapped in buttery, flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for Halloween parties, game day, or any fun gathering, they come together in under 25 minutes with just three main ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 count) hot dogs (standard size, beef or pork recommended)
  • 1 can (8 ounces) crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury Original)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for the eyes)
  • Optional: cooking spray or melted butter (for extra golden finish)
  • Optional: everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unwrap the hot dogs and pat them dry with a paper towel. For mini mummies, cut each hot dog in half crosswise; leave whole for standard mummies. Set aside.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. Press the perforated seams together gently to form one large rectangle.
  4. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. You should get 12 to 16 strips.
  5. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog, starting at one end and working to the other, slightly overlapping. Leave a 1/2-inch gap at the top for the mummy’s face and expose the very bottom. Press the end of the strip to seal. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and strips.
  6. Arrange the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each.
  7. Before baking, use a toothpick or knife tip to dab a tiny dot of mustard or ketchup onto the exposed hot dog at the top of each mummy (two dots per mummy).
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed. Check at 12 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter and serve warm.

Notes

Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Do not wrap too tightly; leave a little slack for expansion. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free hot dogs and gluten-free crescent roll dough or puff pastry. For a dairy-free version, check the dough label or use dairy-free puff pastry. You can also swap hot dogs for vegetarian or plant-based sausages.
